Driver Referrals

Know someone who would be a great addition to the driver community? Refer them directly in the app, and you’ll both be eligible for a bonus!

After the referred driver has been accepted, they will need to complete 10 routes within exactly 40 days of being approved.* Those 10 routes must all be completed on time or the referred driver will be disqualified. Example: If the referred driver is onboarded at 10 a.m. on March 6th, they have until 10 a.m. on April 14th (40 days) to complete those 10 routes. 
*Note: If you refer someone to be a driver with Shipt, only package delivery routes will be eligible for referral bonuses. If the referred driver also signs up to be a shopper with Shipt, any personal shopping orders or routes, including Target Delivery Only routes, will not count toward referral bonuses.

To send a referral, open the main menu in your app and tap Refer drivers. You must complete at least one route to be eligible to send a referral. If you’ve already completed at least one route, you can see what referral bonus is currently running in your area.*

While drivers are welcome to refer friends to apply in metros with waitlists, the referral will be pending until the referee has been approved to be a driver. Referral bonus amounts will vary by metro and are subject to change.

When you’re ready to refer a driver, tap Share next to your personal referral code. You’ll be prompted to send them a pre-formatted message to apply. The referred driver must complete their application via the link you share since this is a dynamic link connected to your driver account.

You can track the status of your referral on the Refer drivers screen at any time after they’ve submitted their application. If their application is accepted and they successfully complete 10 routes on time within 40 days of being approved, your referral will show as a Successful referral and appear in your Payment History.* 
*Note: Referral bonuses are not eligible for instant pay.

FAQs

What about metros that aren’t currently hiring or have a waitlist?

  • Shipt onboards drivers on an as needed basis and the updates to our referral process will not impact this. While drivers are welcome to refer friends to in metros with waitlists, the referral will be pending until the referee has been approved to be a driver. We evaluate the performance of every area in which we deliver on a weekly basis, and if we see an opportunity for more drivers, we’ll reach out to continue the onboarding process. 

How much is the referral bonus?

  • Referral bonus amounts vary by metro and are subject to change. The amount for your metro will be visible on the Refer drivers page in the app.

When will I receive my referral bonus?

  • If the person that you refer completes 10 routes on time within 40 days of being approved, you will both receive a referral bonus. You can keep track of pending and successful referrals as well as view your payment history in the app.
